Below this threshold, each unit increase in AST/ALT ratio was associated with a 40% increase in mortality risk (odds ratio [OR] = 1.4, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.2–1.6, p < 0.001), while above 3.6, the relationship attenuated substantially (OR = 1.0, 95% CI 0.8–1.1, p = 0.600)
